Fiqh al-Sirah - Understanding the Life of Prophet Muhammad
2012 Winter semester
Fourteen centuries ago, thousands of miles away and a totally different milieu – how can the Life of God's last Messenger still resonate with the millions of Muslims living in the 21st century? How do the simple actions and sayings find expression in the modern world? How can Muslims, and non-Muslims, understand the socio-political realities of seventh-century Arabia with its tribal customs to fully appreciate the transformation of simple men and women into leaders of a new civilization? What lessons from the Prophet's life can modern Muslims and non-Muslims glean to make our own world a truly better place?
Internationally known Muslim historian, Dr. Abdullah Hakim-Quick will explore the life of Muhammad bin Abdullah, the last prophet of God with an emphasis on understanding how his life engendered a revolution that changed the course of history, and how modern civilization can learn from the life of one of the greatest men who walked the earth.
